Hey ADKYP! Welcome to February–the whirlwind month! Something about February always speaks to reverence, too, though; a time to practice some radical gratitude and put good out into the world. After all, it’s Black History Month, celebrates Valentine’s Day, and fun fact, it’s the only month in the Gregorian calendar that can pass without seeing the full moon. We strongly endorse taking a trip out to the John Brown Farm State Historic Site in Lake Placid, celebrating our area’s most famous abolitionist, or also the North Star Underground Railroad Museum in Ausable Chasm this month. This month’s newsletter comes full of opportunities to get involved, some events around the area, and a profile of our featured member–but we’re keeping it short and sweet, like February always is.

Featured Member of the Month
This month, we’re featuring Ely Giroux! Ely joined ADKYP after moving back to the area post-graduation, looking to meet more young people in the area. He found out about the group from Instagram, and it’s ended up being a great group of people where he’s met some great friends! Currently, he works as an operations manager at Chazy Orchard, but he is also a board member for the Cornell Cooperative Extension and Adirondack Regional Theatre. Impressively, last year, he was chosen for a young growers fellowship with USApple. The one-year program flew him to D.C. to meet with legislators and learn more about House agricultural committees–he brought back new skills like media training and marketing strategies with him. He’s stayed in the group “for the people!”, he says, and finds it valuable because of the diverse group of fields members come from–for him, no event feels the same and he learns a lot from the other members whenever he goes. Keep an eye out for his newest project with Chazy Orchards; they are starting to market a new hard cider, and he hopes it finds an audience, because it’s a pretty great cider.
